Maiming and Laming

So, Tim and I still haven’t gone on our big bike ride. We were going to go yesterday but while we were at the grocery store, Tim attempted to kill me but only succeeded in maiming my big toe with the shopping cart. The whole right side of the nail was cracked really far into the nail bed. I will spare you a photo, don’t worry. But needless to say, it hurt like a bitch. Today, though, it is feeling somewhat better.

In fact, after a few glasses of wine last night, I was convinced I would be able to go rock climbing with my new friend Charleigh. Oh foolish drunken mortal that I am… I tried putting on my rock climbing shoes this morning, this activity was followed by a series of whimpers and scrambled attempts to get them off. What the hell was I thinking? So, instead, I think we might attempt the bike ride downtown, this afternoon.

I could stand some physical activities after my 3-dessert-night. It’s so true about sugar and how it makes you overeat. You have some, which give you a little energy and then you just crave more sugar. It’s a vicious cycle. I think that after such a hard week, it’s too easy to justify eating something that I know isn’t good for me. I need to learn to stay my resolve somehow. I think I’m going to pack away my scale. I feel like I’m obsessed with getting on it. *sigh* It’s so hard. But I’m back in the saddle again this morning.

Oh and speaking about last night, I have to give a shout out to Charleigh and Blaine. It’s so cool to meet new people, especially when they are funny, outgoing, and have really good stories to tell…

Secret Methods

Tim and I subscribe to netflix. I love coming home and seeing what we’ve got…usually we keep them cycling in and out, but every once in a while we get behind and end up with three great movies. Then we have to choose which one to watch. How do we do this? Tim places the envelopes in an equilateral triangle on the floor and places Cleo or Paka in the center of the envelopes and which ever direction they choose to walk is the movie we watch. Cleo and Paka both chose “Beyond The Sea”. It wasn’t very good at all. Cats don’t know anything about movies…

I haven’t gotten any pics of us on our new bikes, but they are really sweet. We both ended up with the Giant Boulder SE. We’ve got big plans to take them to some downtown bike trails tomorrow. We’d do it today but my ass is still too sore from taking my first spin class yesterday morning. That is hard work, but mainly it just hurts from doing the jumps. My boss calls it “taint smashing” and I can’t think of a more appropriate name.

My diet isn’t going very well. I like eating healthy, but I’ve been working out like mad and stuck to the diet strictly last week and I actually gained 3 pounds. I guess I was just meant to be 128 pounds forever. *sigh* Tim told me that I look beautiful the way I am, so maybe I’ll just stop trying to lose weight and just concentrate on having fun. The Air Force has put so much pressure on me to shrink my waist that it’s taking all the enjoyment out of life. I really hate this crap. I can not wait to be done. I can’t wait to stop being judged as a person on my waist size, especially since I perceive it to be pretty normal. Bastards.

New Bikes

Tim and I are buying our new bikes today! :) I told him that I had saved up so that I could buy him one for his birthday but then we decided it would be more fun if we just got them now... Woo Hoo! I am so excited... I'll post pics as soon as I get home...

Ways That my camping trip to Chatfield could have been worse

1. If the 50 mile an hour gusting winds had been accompanied by a plague of locusts.

2. If I had stepped in any form of animal feces while trying to find a flat piece of ground that didn’t have sticker bushes on it.

3. If the Chatfield State park ranger, who had forcefully requested that we move our vehicles back wheels from the 3 inch wide brown patch of crab grass she called lawn, had punched me when I sarcastically said, “ um… that’s lawn? Uh…okaaaay.”

4. If our tent had not gotten blown in on one side from the gale force winds and we had been forced to spend our evening camping next to “Mr. Fixit” and his wife, “Gabby McBitchypants”.

5. If I had been struck by lightening.

6. If God himself came down from heaven and smote me.

7. If I had mistaken the Sunblock SPF 30 for the “I can’t Believe it’s not Butter” spray bottle.

All in all, I have to say it was the worst 6 hours of my life. I’ve been camping folks… This was not camping. This was God’s way of punishing me for trying to be the UAC Vice President. Thank god I resigned that post and I’m leaving this Unit behind. My sunburn is slightly less painful today than it was yesterday. My brand new Eddie Bauer tent is still broken, and according to my Target return policy, they will only take back damaged merchandise if it was proven defective during normal wear and tear. I’m guessing that the hurricane from hell wouldn’t fall into that category. I am thinking of writing a letter to Mr. Bauer though. I’m thinking of inviting him to take his 6 person tent, currently on sale at Target for $88 and take a little jaunt to Chatfield Reservoir. I bet he’d have a great time. *rubs hands together and laughs maniacally*

Sorry if I seem perturbed. My feet are burning. :o(

And in other news, I’m taking tomorrow off as leave. I can’t even put a pair of socks on, I’m not sure how I’m supposed to wear combat boots. *sigh* November 23rd seems so far away…

Oh, Tim and I did have some fun today. We went out and shopped for Bikes. We haven’t bought any yet. We’re doing research and trying some out, but I’m so excited about finally having one. We went out and started scoping out bike trails around the city and ended up going to Golden for lunch and went up Lookout Mountain. It was breathtaking… and what do you know, I forgot my camera, darnit. Next time we go up I’ll have to take pics of that amazing view. Colorado really is such a beautiful state.

In honor of Stephanie

Songs I want played at my funeral: (no, I’m not being morbid…)

Feelin’ Good – Nina Simone
Yoshimi battles the Pink Robots – The Flaming Lips
Slip Slidin’ Away – Paul Simon
Angel Flyin’ Too Close To The Ground – Willie Nelson
With Or Without You – U2

Sweaty

My shirt is sticking to me. That’s how I know I really kicked ass at the gym today. A long time ago, when I was stationed in Montana, my friend Janis sweated on her cross trainer beside me and asked me, “How can you call it working out if you’re not sweating? Kick it up girl.” Ah, Jan… She was a one girl powerhouse of energy. She was the only girl on her flight her carried an M-60 that was taller than she was. I wonder where she’s at these days… Anyway, she was my workout inspiration today. Well, that and my MP3 player. Just as I was finishing my workout, Jamiroquai's "Canned Heat" came on, so I looked around the locker room, amde sure it was empty and busted out my Napoleon Dynamite moves. I love that song...

Turn out that earthquake I mentioned was nothing big. *whew* I struck very close to my home town Port Orford. Luckily it didn’t do much damage.

Tim and I are heading off to go camping on Friday. I just bought us our first tent. We put it up wrong first, then, we read the directions and put it up the right way. Never make the mistake of assuming that you are smarter than your camping equipment. Eddie Bauer will prove you wrong every time.

*rubs eyes* G'Morning

Sorry for being so lax on writing this week. Our base was in exercise and they had me working 6-6 all week long. IT sucked. Not to mention the new base policy about working out. Okay, I work out 5-6 times a week. I do either yoga or pilates every day except on Sunday. I’ve been watching my diet and have lost about 13 lbs. I started out at about 141-142 and now I am down to 128. But that is just not good enough for the military, they want me fit as a marine…never mind that I’m getting out in 5 months. :P So now they’ve mandated that the entire squadron has PT Monday, Tuesday, and Friday. So that means this past week, I’ve done more pushups and situps than I care to mention and it also explains why I feel like I was ran over by a bus.

I went to a PTL led session on Wednesday. Our PTL leader made us each do 30 pushups and situps. I was thinking, well this isn’t too bad… Then he grabs these two basketballs and says that if we make a basket from the free throw line that we only have to do 5 pushups and situps, but if we miss we have to do ten. I missed every time, we did that 6 times. Then, to further my humiliation, he made us do wheelbarrow races. Yep… I couldn’t believe it either. Whoever lost the race had to run 15 laps. I fell down on the way back to the finish line, so my partner just dragged me across the filthy gym floor. It was a great day. :P It was like gym class from hell. And you’d think I would have lost 1-2 pounds from all the torture, but now… I stayed the same weight all week. What is up with that????

Oh well. I finally got my cute new bathing suit in the mail and it fits me perfectly. I bought it cause it looks just like the one Madonna wore in Swept Away. :o) No I’m not obsessed. Okay maybe a little. I have to admit, she is my workout inspiration. Anytime I start to feel a little lazy or discouraged, I put on Swept Away and I’m like, damn, that women is the same age as my Mom, and she looks way better than me….Gotta keep on movin’.

I’m going to get my birthday facial today. I figured after a week of such abuse I needed some pampering. We’re having a bunch of friends over tonight for a cookout. We’re doing some surf n’ turf…. Lobster and Steak. Mmmmm… That’s on my diet right? More later…

Kenny Rogers and Cooter...

So, last night Tim and I went to see Dane play at this Biker Bar called Bobo’s over on 43rd and Sheridan. I mean, I knew it was a biker bar, but I wasn’t sure what to expect. It’s was pretty mellow there didn’t seem to be too many biker’s around when we got there. I was having hard time getting a drink squared away as it seems that they don’t serve wine, fat tire or Guinness there. So I went over to the bar to see what they did have. I ordered a vodka cranberry.

As I waited for the waitress behind the bar to make it, (by they way she looked like me... If I was 30 years older and had a nasty crack habit. Bleached blond hair, missing teeth….yikes) this older Biker guy at the bar says, “ all I wanna know is who’s that purty new girl over there…” I said, “ Oh, I’m just here to see my good friend Dane play tonight.” Then he comes walking over, and introduces himself as Scooter. Or was it Cooter, it was hard to tell. He extended his hand and growled, “ I’d like to be your friend. Your goooooood friend.” The way he drew that "good" out scared me. I just said, “ nope, I’m good. I have lots of friends. Okay bye…” As I walked back to my table he and his buddy, who looked like a fat Kenny Rogers with a Mullet, had a good laugh. Good Lordy. Interesting night…

Today Tim and I are heading down to the People’s Fair today to hear Sheila play. She’ll be on the North Broadway stage from 2-3 if anyone’s interested…
