Days gone by...

Life has a strange way of going full circle when it comes to friends and relationships. I spent a half hour catching up today with a friend of mine from way back when. I always wonder if I seem as different to people, who knew me then, as I feel. It’s really hard to tell, but if anything the conversation was a resolution, restitution, reconnection type thing. It made me giddy with memories of parties and friends and music and good times.

We reminisced about a time when we all stayed up all night and watched the sun rise. I never do that anymore... I may have been totally screwed up when I was in Montana, but I really did have some good friends and amazing experiences. So, a shout out to Chris Murphy, I hope your life is happy and your band makes it big!

And in other news, it is raining again. All week long, raining, all next week raining... I think it's going to rain for my birthday party. But it's okay... I can turn my house in Studio 54 just as easily as my patio. We got our disco ball today... It's huge. :)

THE BLOGGER

So, I link to folks all the time. There are a few sites with blogs that I read on a regular basis. But there is one site, Greek Tragedy, that I read more than twice a day. This girl is gripping, seriously. None of that boring, “this is what I ate for dinner, I hate my boss, I got a new pair of panties” crap that I write about. This girls stuff is meaty and really gets inside your head. If you read all her posts you would know so many personal things about her but you still wouldn’t really know her. She’s a mystery but she’s so open. Her chronicles of life as a single girl in New York have garnered her comparisons to the ubiquitous Carrie Bradshaw. The Sex in the City stuff stops there. (Well, almost there, she says Mr. Big hit on her once…. Lucky girl. She turned him down.) She’s something else.

Anyway, I read her, I link her, I comment on her blog every now and again. Well, tonight, she returned the compliment by commenting on mine. A kind gesture, especially since I read that she gets something like 10,00 hits a day or something. Anyway, a shout out to Stephanie Klein, out there living the dream, writing her thoughts and sharing them with us. Everyone in the world should be so fortunate to read someone so real.

I prefer Duckie....

It is a strange thing to watch old John Hughes movies as an adult. Now, even though movies like The Breakfast Club, Pretty in Pink and Sixteen Candles weren’t really part of my generation, I look back on my early viewing and I remember feeling exactly as I was meant to feel. Jake Ryan is dreamy. Who doesn’t love the super hot popular guy with a heart of gold who picks the plain girl out of a crowd. As a very plain girl, I was really pinning all my hopes on a Jake Ryan of my own.

Last night I was watching TBS and happened upon the movie Pretty in Pink. I’ve only ever seen this movie one other time, so I ended up watching the whole thing last night, for nostalgia’s sake. I realized something about half-way through the movie. Now that I am more secure in who I am and not desperate for a rich, popular boy to notice me… I’m not as invested in the story as I was before. I’m more interested in Duckie. That scene where he dances around the record store to Otis Redding is hilarious. There is something really magnetic about his tortured weirdness….

That rich Andrew guy doesn’t say a single interesting thing in the whole movie. I find it difficult to understand how someone so uninspired could have played the male lead in the movie. If James Spader hadn’t been such a prick, maybe he’d have been a better choice. He was a huge asshole in the movie, but that sleepy eyed, slightly perverse sexuality that he oozes ( or maybe I’m just obsessed with that movie Secretary) is very intriguing. I don’t know. I guess the older you get, the formulas just don’t seem to make as much sense any more.

Give me more Duckies….

Happy happy happy hour!

After a day fraught with Azbell and idiocy, it is time for a happy hour. We’ll bundle up, (cos it’s a pourin’ down hail outside) and head to the Cricket for some happy hour happiness. Mainly just dinner. My drinking is shrinking, my health a concern, and the days that we drink are the days that we burn. The end of time is coming soon and it’s better to sing than wait for doom to find you waiting outside the door, a cricket I need, and I’ll say once more, to Daniel and dane and lena and all the rest of you lovely lot… I’m happy right now, cos it’s the hour to be happy.

p.s. Emily started her new job at Starbucks today. I hope she’s doing good… go Roo go!

Hi, my name is Erin…

And I am addicted to Ebay. It’s a sickness. I don’t spend that much, but I check it obsessively. (About 75 times a day) I have other things going on but if I even glance in the direction of my office I have to know what’s going on with my bids. I spend hours poring over selections of vintage dresses, designer high heels, just whatever. Carefully placing them in my “I’m watching this item” bin and mostly never bidding until I find that sweet deal. I spend a lot of time thinking about my bidding methods. How to swoop in gracefully in the last hour and get that item you really want. The rush of the “you won this item” email. And now, it has come to the point, when I go to the mall, I see a cute purse or cute shoes and say to myself… “I bet I could get that on eBay for so much cheaper….” *sigh* I’d love to write more, but I have to go check my eBay account.

What a week!

So, the longest week of my life is finally over. We worked all last week, the previous weekend, and the week before… No breaks. Just me, getting up early every single flipping morning. Anyhoo, the big news this week is we got an excellent on our inspection which means we are home free for while at least. I am now free to focus on all the other things that I have going on in my life.

For instance… Emily is going to be here on Sunday. She starts her new job at Starbucks on Monday. Her whole plan is officially in effect. I’m proud of her taking this huge step; I know how frightening it can be to leave home. But, it’s time. She’s been needing this for a while. And I dare say my parents have been needing it too. The nest has to get emptied eventually.

Also this week, I finally got my camera! I love it! It’s so portable and the resolution is great… oh and it has video recording on it…with sound! That is so awesome. Tim bought us a really nice Printer/scanner/fax machine combo for our business. We have quite the set up now. We finally paid off the sound booth, so now with our super fast computers, printer, camera, sound booth…we are ready for our next year of working from home…God I can NOT wait until that’s what I get to do…

I’m getting all geared up for my party… I’ve ordered the decorations, my costume is almost complete and Tim’s is coming along nicely. We just need to order our lights and our keg and then we’re ready. It’s gonna be huge… I’ll make sure to post lots of pics of the whole thing.

More to come,
~

You're an Etch-a-Sketch!! You're the creative,
artsy type who doesn't need to actually utilize
a single muscle group in order to have fun.
Doesn't matter though, you're still cool.
